Learning and Education is another empowering tool you will experience while mapping your journey. Our support groups often host educational sessions led by qualified health professionals. These sessions can provide you with valuable information about cancer treatments, managing side effects, and other relevant topics, allowing you to make more informed decisions about your own care.
Sense of Community: Joining a support group at Cancer Support Community at Gilda's Club Rochester allows you to become part of a supportive community where you can form meaningful connections with others who share similar experiences. As an added bonus to our Mapping Your Journey Support groups, we also offer the option to speak with a licensed therapist in a private setting. Whether you have questions about treatment side effects, struggles with balancing responsibilities, or simply need someone to listen, our support groups and therapy sessions are here to support you. Best of all, all our programs are provided at no cost to you.
What you can expect from our facilitators:
Participants can expect an experienced, supportive and understanding facilitator who knows their role is to create a safe and inclusive space for participants to share their thoughts, emotions, and concerns. They will actively listen and offer empathy, validation, and encouragement.
Participants can expect a compassionate and knowledgeable facilitator who will create a nurturing environment, provide guidance, and foster meaningful connections among group members.
The support group facilitator will also provide guidance and coping strategies to help participants navigate the challenges of cancer. They may share relevant information, resources, and tools to assist in managing physical, emotional, and practical aspects of the journey. Additionally, the facilitator will foster open and respectful communication among group members, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to be heard.
Importantly, the facilitator will maintain confidentiality and ensure that all participants feel respected and supported throughout their participation in the group.
